you need to have a thick skin and be creative. Go to art college and study fashion. Learning French would help to. Keep a sketch book full of your designs and use anything for inspiration.

Learn how to sew!! Get a machine. Learn how the pieces are constructed. Pay attention to materials and how they look and work with other fabrics. The designing aspect of it you will learn in school. Knowing how to do those things before you get there will save you a world of stress. If you don’t learn how to sew first, you will feel like you are about to participate in Tour de France and don’t know how to ride a bike!

Always remember that the fit is the most important part. More important than the print or style of the garmet. Always always make sure it fits great!

First of all you have to be a skilled one: “the talent can’t be learned”, create your portfolio could be a good idea in order to practise, have something to present when you’ll be asking for job, and to present your works to friends and other people that can give you recommendation and opinions. You need observation skills too, because the fashion world is always in contact with the real one and finds its inspiration on the everyday life. So be curious and try always to find something different. Then I recommend you a good degree in fashion design, that will make your talent become real skills.
